I dropped into my local bookstore to wish them a Happy Christmas and was delighted to find that I couldn’t. They were too busy. The place was thronged, despite the terrible weather outside. Adults were perusing the shelves of bestsellers; children were sprawled on the floor leafing through picture books.
It’s great to see so many people considering books as gifts for themselves or others. And it’s great to see folks spending their hard-earned cash locally, helping local businesses to employ local people.
On a personal note, I’m grateful for them for stocking my novel. I took a snap of the signed poster they stuck on the front window. I couldn’t ask for more from them.
So, if you’re still in a quandary about presents for family or friends, young or old, you CANNOT give something that gives more than a good book. No matter where you are in the world reading this, drop into your local bookstore and help them to spread the good word.
Happy Christmas to one and all!
